FORESTRY IN CRISIS
As a result of a crisis in the Ontario forestry sector, a coalition of industry individuals and groups, including forestry corporations, municipalities, unions, and First Nations was formed with the objective of pressing the Ontario government into action.
Along with two previous rounds of support, the Premier’s announcement in February 2006 brought the total support package to $1 billion. The package delivered on all of the coalition’s key demands, along with additional resources that exceeded the original request.
